Mega Man X (1993)

Wall-climbing changes a missed jump from an automatic disaster into a chance to improvise, and the dash upgrade makes revisiting stages a pleasure. Choose the SNES game within Mega Man X Legacy Collection, rather than the substantially remade Maverick Hunter X. The collection's Rookie Hunter option is an added assist, not evidence that the original was easy. Boss order, hidden upgrades and lethal spikes can still demand practice, but the movement gives that practice an immediate purpose.
