The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (1998)

Koholint's small, interlocking spaces make an item or shortcut feel useful almost at once. The Game Boy Color DX edition adds colour and an extra dungeon to the 1993 adventure and is available in the Game Boy Classics library. Its two main action buttons mean frequent inventory swaps, especially when a sword, shield and another tool compete for space. The 2019 Switch remake eases that burden with more dedicated controls; those conveniences belong to the remake, not this handheld design.
