Super Mario Bros. (1985)

World 1-1 places a moving enemy, blocks and a power-up where experimentation quickly produces an understandable result. The first pipe even sends an escaped mushroom back towards you, giving another chance to discover its value. That deliberate arrangement helps explain why a sparse screen can teach so much. This refers to the 1985 NES game, rather than its later remakes. Its lesson still asks you to risk a life, and it assumes you can discover the jump button.
