The Holly and the Ivy (1952)
Movie
Released
The children of a Norfolk parson return to the vicarage with things they do not feel able to tell him. Christmas togetherness becomes an uncomfortable performance when everybody assumes the others will judge their private life. Ralph Richardson, Celia Johnson and Margaret Leighton make the silences matter. A compact, older chamber drama for viewers who recognise that a family reunion may need listening more urgently than another celebration.
