A short room can become a carefully rehearsed burst of motion, and the sprite animation makes that burst satisfying to read back. Sword arcs, bullet paths and the assassin's dashes give your successful attempt a visible rhythm. Rewinds and altered time also belong to the story's presentation, rather than existing only as menu conveniences. The neon setting is attractive, but the connection between animation, repetition and uncertainty is the stronger reason to play.
