The Host (2006)

A creature attack gives a dysfunctional Korean family a clear shared task while institutions keep making it harder. Bong Joon Ho lets broad comedy coexist with grief and anger. The Korean-language monster film is accessible through its family relationships, but its tonal shifts are livelier and less reassuring than a conventional Hollywood rescue adventure.
