Mad Max (2015)

Released alongside Metal Gear Solid V, Avalanche's 2015 wasteland game had difficult competition for attention. Its strongest case is the car: upgrading a battered machine and using it in violent, dusty pursuits gives the familiar open-world structure a physical centre. Camp clearance and scavenging can become repetitive. The campaign remains the attraction; retired online functionality also leaves some completion challenges unavailable to new players.
