Late Americans (2023)
Book
Published
Artists, service workers and aspiring professionals circle one another in Iowa City, comparing ideals that their finances do not support equally. Taylor makes a useful distinction between talking beautifully about art and treating another person well. The shifting viewpoints ask you to revise quick judgements. Queer desire, class resentment and occasional violence make the social observation abrasive rather than reassuring.
