Maid (2019)

Cleaning other people’s houses gives Land intimate knowledge of their lives while leaving her nearly invisible to them. The memoir connects paid housekeeping to childcare, housing and the effort of continuing an education, so the shift never ends neatly at a client’s door. Choose it for the collision between competent service and persistent insecurity, with a worker’s own account at the centre.
