Hinton recounts wrongful conviction and decades on Alabama’s death row, where friendship and imagination help preserve a life the state has confined. Written with Lara Love Hardin, the memoir places his eventual freedom beside the time that cannot be returned. Read it for hope sustained through relationships and sustained legal effort. Its accounts of racism, confinement and executions are painful.
