Six stories in different periods and forms make power recognisable across very different worlds. A diary, letters, a thriller and other narrative modes ask the reader to listen afresh, while each account can become an object in someone else's life. The changes matter beyond a clever puzzle: who can command, exploit or preserve another person's story keeps shifting. Its interrupted, returning structure needs patience, and some invented language requires extra work.
