Dear Committee Members (2014)

Letters of recommendation give Jason Fitger an official reason to write and repeated opportunities to say far too much. The gap between a letter’s proper business and his grievances is the comic engine, while recurring names let concern emerge through the bluster. Julie Schumacher turns a familiar institutional document into a character study. Choose it for sharp academic comedy with an unexpectedly tender record of obligation beneath it.
