Catch-22 (1961)
Book

A regulation that proves impossible to escape is more instructive here than a hundred speeches about bad leadership. Heller's airmen discover that the institution can turn even a sensible wish to survive into a reason to keep flying. Repeated scenes gradually acquire a different emotional weight. The comedy grows out of administrative logic, but war, sexual violence and loss make this much harsher than a collection of office jokes.
