13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (2019)

Vanillaware asks you to assemble a science-fiction mystery from thirteen interlocking viewpoints, then defend the city in top-down battles. The pleasure is noticing how one person's ordinary encounter becomes another person's missing clue. Make room for both halves: this is a lengthy, dialogue-heavy adventure with a separate tactical combat system. It rewards curiosity about its cast more than prior knowledge of any franchise.
