SteamWorld Dig 2 (2017)

SteamWorld Dig's dig, sell and upgrade loop gains a more satisfying place to live. The sequel's carefully arranged passages, grapple and movement upgrades let you recognise old obstacles as future routes, so returning underground feels less like repeating a commute. The original remains a neat short loop; Dig 2 is my choice when exploration itself should provide the reward.
