Wizard of the Crow (2006)

An unemployed man’s improvised role as a wizard becomes entangled with the ambitions of a dictatorship. The length allows rumours, official evasions and extravagant development schemes to spread through the same political world. Ngũgĩ’s English version has the expansiveness of oral storytelling, with recurring situations gaining force through variation. Choose it for an unruly political satire, with cruelty as well as laughter.
