Years of volunteer patching are a tangible expression of Bloodlines' following. The reason to care is how a clan choice changes your way through a neighbourhood, from conversation to access and concealment. That social texture survives uneven shooting and a later emphasis on combat. GOG's supplied Basic Unofficial Patch route is a sensible introduction; the Plus option makes additional content changes. Choose the original 2004 game for its reactive vampire society, without treating the community's repair work as proof that every scene has aged well.
