Gothic II: Gold Edition (2005)

Archolos is one conspicuous example of a community building a whole new adventure around Gothic II. The base game earns that dedication through dangerous routes, faction loyalties and a gradual shift from being pushed around to knowing how a place works. Gold includes Night of the Raven, which makes the introduction tougher. Expect focus controls and early weakness that need practice. A large mod can wait: first see whether learning the original world's social and physical boundaries appeals to you.
