A billionaire crosses Manhattan in a limousine to get a haircut while trying to manage money on an altogether different scale. Traffic, a funeral, demonstrations and visiting advisers keep disrupting his moving enclosure. DeLillo uses one April day in 2000 to rub abstract financial time against the slower, obstructive life of the street. It is a cold, abrasive choice, useful for watching what happens when extraordinary resources cannot purchase control of a day's direction.
