Runaway (2004)

Three Juliet stories form a continuous thread within a wider collection of departures, attachments and changed interpretations of the past. Munro's leaps through time make a short piece feel capable of revising a whole life. Read for how one woman's repeated appearances sit beside other, independent lives. The title story's unease is only one part of a book that keeps testing what escape might actually mean.
