Christoph Waltz's Dr King Schultz makes conversational courtesy coexist with a violent profession. A hypothetical earlier case could force him to discover which of his principles survive when persuasion stops being a comfortable advantage. The moral friction is more sustainable than simply commissioning extra clever speeches, with the character's existing story left intact.
