Warbreaker (2009)
Book
Published
Breath, colour and the wording of commands turn animation into something with practical limits. Sanderson lets those limits affect servants, soldiers and ordinary possessions, then gives the reader reasons to question who can afford such power. The sisters' contrasting positions in a dangerous court keep the mechanics attached to people. It stands on its own, with the wider Cosmere connections available as extras rather than prerequisites.
