The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea (2022)

Oh reshapes the Korean Tale of Shim Cheong by giving an invented heroine, Mina, the decision to enter the sea in another girl’s place. Her journey through a spirit realm turns the source’s questions of sacrifice and family duty towards agency and chosen attachments. This standalone young adult fantasy has a strong romantic thread. Read it as a new conversation with a familiar Korean story, rather than a translation of that story.
