Wicked Fox (2019)

Cho brings the Korean gumiho, a nine-tailed fox spirit, into contemporary Seoul through Miyoung, whose survival threatens human lives. Her questions about the fox woman’s usual villainous role meet the emotional pace of Korean television drama. The resulting young adult romance also contains a dangerous struggle over appetite and conscience. Its gumiho belongs to Korean storytelling; treating her as an interchangeable version of every East Asian fox spirit misses the point.
