Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (2009)

Minli leaves her impoverished village to seek the Old Man of the Moon, meeting stories within stories on her journey. Lin draws on Chinese folktale characters and motifs, but the interlocking tales are her own creations, sometimes expanding a brief traditional reference into a new history. The illustrated children’s novel makes listening, generosity and the limits of wishing part of its structure. A warm place to begin for younger readers and adults reading alongside them.
