Redemption in indigo (2010)
Book
Published
Lord takes a West African tale about a capable cook and her gluttonous husband as a starting point, then gives Paama a much larger encounter with djombi spirits and the power of chaos. The narrator’s interruptions and conversational timing are central pleasures. Lord has discussed receiving the source through an ethnographer’s account; this is a Barbadian writer’s inventive further transformation of a travelling story.
