Learning the streets, house floors and less welcoming corners of a coastal town makes the horror feel rooted in a place you understand. Separate plans for the town and interiors help keep blocked routes and unfinished investigations in view. Choose the 2018 Illustrated Edition for this recommendation: its author redesigned both map and puzzles, so a 1998 map is not interchangeable. Expect disturbing Lovecraftian material and later pressure that makes keeping earlier saves worthwhile.
