Baldur's Gate III (2023)

My first pick combines a remarkably flexible character with companions who have reasons to resist, trust or challenge them. Race, class, background and imaginative use of abilities open different ways through a situation; the relationships make those choices personal. Playing an Origin character offers another perspective, while a custom protagonist still belongs in the story. The turn-based battles need attention, but the freedom to approach both a conversation and a fight as your chosen person earns its position.
