The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher (2023)

At 83, Edna is an inconvenient choice for a system accustomed to sending teenagers on dangerous quests. Her son's death and the care she brings to other people give her decision to leave the retirement home a serious purpose beneath the jokes. The book questions what a heroic institution deserves from those it claims to protect. The author currently lists it as out of print, so look for a library or second-hand copy rather than expecting a new edition.
