Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg have spent long enough dealing with people to distrust a charming new arrival's sales pitch. Against a family of modern-minded vampires, that experience becomes a source of resistance rather than a cue to retire gracefully. The younger witches have important parts too, making the differences between generations part of the pleasure. Best with some acquaintance with Pratchett's witches, especially if you enjoy competence with sharp elbows.
