Ostatnie Życzenie (1993)

The Last Wish appears here under its Polish title, Ostatnie życzenie. Geralt's jobs make identifying the monster only the beginning of the moral question. Fairy-tale reversals, quarrels and dry wit give the violence texture, while his relationships put pressure on his claimed detachment. A good entry to the Witcher books in Danusia Stok's English translation: linked stories rather than the opening volume of one continuous quest.
