The Tainted Cup (2024)

A tree erupts from an official's body, bringing a deeply odd detective and her new assistant into an investigation shaped by biological magic. The body horror is memorable, but so are Ana and Din's awkward working relationship and the satisfaction of following clues. A strong choice when a dangerous fantasy world still needs the pleasures of a well-built murder mystery. It opens an ongoing detective series.
