His Majesty's Dragon (2006)

A dragon hatchling unexpectedly chooses a British naval officer during the Napoleonic Wars, sending both into the Aerial Corps. Temeraire is intelligent, affectionate and capable of asking awkward questions about the system using his strength. The partnership includes feeding, training and crews as well as spectacular battles. Published in Britain as Temeraire, this first series volume suits readers who want a rider bond with military logistics and a developing moral argument.
