Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is a complete original trilogy, starting with The Dragonbone Chair; To Green Angel Tower is often split into two paperback volumes. Later Osten Ard sequences are additional stories. Williams takes time over Simon's early life before widening the conflict, so allow the opening room to develop. The eventual scale matters because loyalties and inherited accounts of history become harder to accept at face value.
