A conspiracy of truths (2018)
Book
Published
Accused of witchcraft and treason, the storyteller Chant tries to survive by influencing officials whose rivalries he can only partly observe from prison. Stories become a political resource with consequences beyond his immediate escape plan. Rowland is especially interesting on the gap between persuading powerful people and understanding what they will do with the persuasion. This offers competing centres of authority and a narrator whose limited knowledge matters as much as his ingenuity.
