Children of Time (2015)

Two civilisations develop under different bodily and historical conditions, while the reader learns enough about each to see why shared interests may remain hard to recognise. Tchaikovsky gives communication a foundation in perception, inherited knowledge and social organisation. Read for the long preparation behind a possible meeting of minds, rather than a quick translator-device solution. Its evolutionary scope is large; the novel begins an expanding series.
