A Marvellous Light (2021)

Robin's accidental appointment to a magical civil-service job makes Edwin both his reluctant guide and the person best placed to understand a dangerous curse. Their uneven confidence and different relationships with power give the attraction a fine tension. Magic is worked through an inventive system rather than serving as decorative atmosphere. The sex is explicit. This opens the Last Binding trilogy: the couple's relationship develops here, but the conspiracy continues across all three books.
