Semiosis (2018)

On the planet Pax, settlers discover that their surroundings have interests of their own. Plant intelligence changes the terms of survival, because food, shelter and cooperation depend on organisms whose lifespans and priorities differ from ours. The generational structure makes adaptation gradual and sometimes costly. Choose this opening novel for alien ecology with agency, and expect successive human viewpoints rather than a single expedition leader explaining everything.
