The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)

Armando Iannucci treats Dickens's crowded world as a resource for performance and storytelling, with Dev Patel's David learning to notice voices as well as survive events. Changes to the plot help an expansive novel become a brisk comic recollection. Choose it for eccentric characters whose humour remains attached to class and insecurity, with an openly imaginative approach to casting and memory.
