Severance (2018)

Candace keeps doing her office job as the world around it becomes increasingly impossible to ignore. The outbreak premise throws work routines, immigrant memory and attachment to New York into a particularly sharp light. Ma's dry observation will appeal if you enjoy contemporary social novels and distrust neat accounts of personal reinvention. Expect an unsettling mix of workplace comedy and apocalypse, with movement between ordinary life and survival rather than a straightforward disaster chronology.
