Bannerless (2017)

An investigator examines a suspicious death in a society whose small settlements regulate resources and reproduction. Vaughn makes a murder mystery out of the difficult business of sharing limits: communal rules can protect people while also creating pressure to conceal a failure. The scale is local and the storytelling comparatively restrained. Start here before The Wild Dead if you want more of the Coast Road.
