The Time Ships (1995)

Read Wells's The Time Machine before this ambitious continuation. Baxter sends the Traveller back towards the future he remembers, only to confront the consequences of having visited it at all. The scale expands into branching history and much more speculative physics than Wells's short novel requires. Choose it when you want a substantial causal construction, with personal purpose continually tested by a universe that will not remain a stable destination.
