The Time Traveler's Wife (2003)

Henry's involuntary journeys through his own lifetime leave Clare experiencing their relationship in a different order. The resulting problem is intimate: how do two people build trust when the same encounter can mean very different things to each of them? Niffenegger gives the strange chronology practical and bodily consequences, rather than treating travel as a convenient power. Love and waiting acquire unusual force when a life's partly known shape makes agency difficult to judge.
