The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August (2014)

Harry repeatedly returns to childhood with the knowledge of his previous lives. That clear starting constraint grows into a story about people who can remember history differently from everyone around them, and the loyalties such an existence makes possible. Long-range planning and patient revelations expose the friction between friendship and responsibility. The pleasure is in following what accumulated knowledge permits, then asking whether permission amounts to justification.
