Ring Shout (2020)

What if racist propaganda could turn its audience into literal monsters? Clark builds a fierce historical horror story around that premise, with Maryse and her companions resisting the Ku Klux Klan in 1920s Georgia. The action has the concentrated drive of a novella, while songs, stories and collective memory give resistance its depth. Its violent confrontation makes a forceful choice when you want a short read to leave an argument behind.
