The sorcerer of the Wildeeps (2015)

Demane travels as a hired guard, though his powers are far greater than his companions understand. Protecting them may demand a change that costs him something human. Wilson makes that problem intimate through his love for the Captain, then places the caravan in a danger brute force cannot neatly settle. Dense language and shifts of register reward close attention. Choose it for a demanding, violent reading burst in which supernatural strength offers no simple emotional safety.
