The Marrow Thieves (2017)
Book
Published
In a future where most people have lost the ability to dream, Indigenous people are hunted for the marrow believed to restore it. Dimaline, a Métis writer, centres Frenchie and a travelling group whose stories and relationships resist being reduced to someone else’s resource. This young-adult dystopia makes the machinery of extraction inseparable from the history of residential schools. Frenchie’s story continues in Hunting by Stars, but community and cultural continuity already carry as much weight as escape here.
