Record of a Spaceborn Few (2018)

Isabel, an elderly archivist, is one of five viewpoint characters living in the Exodus Fleet. Her work with records and an alien researcher makes accumulated knowledge active: she must decide how to explain a culture she belongs to, rather than simply recite its traditions. Chambers gives her marriage and professional life space within an intergenerational ensemble. This third Wayfarers novel has a largely independent cast and a gentle, reflective rhythm, despite a serious disaster.
