The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency (2009)

McCall Smith introduces Precious Ramotswe and the Gaborone agency through cases of different sizes, alongside the relationships that sustain her work. Listening, everyday judgement and respect for a person’s circumstances matter as much as discovering a hidden fact. This is a gentle, episodic series opening with a professional detective, rather than an amateur murder hunt. Some material involving children and past abuse is considerably darker than its affectionate surface.
