Recursion (2019)
Book
Published
Memories of apparently unlived lives trouble a detective, while a neuroscientist's work opens a different approach to the problem. Crouch makes recollection convincing enough to challenge the ordinary evidence of a life, then follows the consequences into grief and attachment. This is a fast thriller with a widening construction. Its place here is the pressure on personal testimony: remembering something vividly does not guarantee that the people you love inhabit the same account of the past.
